Rouen, France

Market Square (Photo by Gregg Manalo)
Rouen holds a special place in my heart mainly because of two reasons: my favorite heroine – Joan of Arc and the patron saint of teachers – St. Jean Baptiste De La Salle. Several months prior to my trip to Rouen, I started researching about this unfamiliar destination – points of interest, landmarks, UNESCO World Heritage sites and historical significance.

Initially, I listed five notable landmarks that are a must-see in Rouen. However, I discovered that there are so many historical landmarks to see in Rouen besides those that I initially found.

And here, I am sharing places of interest in Rouen:

1. Old Market Place

2. Saint Joan of Arc Church

Where I Stayed

Best Western Vieux de Marche

It’s a three-star hotel located right in the heart of Rouen. It is a simple hotel - nothing fancy, but what I like about it is its location. It’s a few meters away from the Old Market Place and around ten minutes walk from / to the famous Rouen Cathedral.

What I experienced:

The hotel is easy to locate and its staff are friendly and accommodating. The space in the bedroom is just enough for two persons to comfortably move, but the bathroom is reasonably large. It has a bathtub that is rather rare for hotels in this category.

For guests who travel by cars, there are two possible ways to park : open parking in front of the night door and basement parking.

Buffet breakfast is very good. It serves the typical French breakfast – croissant, baguette, jams – and other international food such as cold cuts, cereals, pan cakes, etc.  I could say it would satisfy most people’s cravings.

Another very significant feature of this hotel is its free Internet that is very fast. Uploading pictures and videos from your trip wouldn't be a hassle.

Finally, a word of caution to the guests staying in the lower floors: keep your privacy by keeping your window curtains closed.
