Boracay Island

Boracay is an island at the northern tip of Aklan which located some kilometers south of Manila.

There are two ways by which tourists can go there: by plane or by boat. There are two airports that serve tourists going the island. One airport where Philippie Airlines land is the Kalibo International Airport and the other one, where small planes land, is Caticlan Airport. For example Cebu-Pacific Air flies to Caticlan airport. I would recommend the latter because it is nearer and actually cheaper considering the time and the cost you need to spend travelling from Kalibo to Jetty Port where small boats await tourists going to the island.

Boracay was not a popular destination in the 80's. It has become popular in the 90's when toursits started to flock on the island. Since then, much has been heard about the island. The powdery white sand which you one can not find anywhere else in the world has made a landmark in the tourism industry.

Establishments sprouted like mushrooms which made the island even more attractive specially to the yuppies. Big hotel chains also became attracted to the island. Just recently, Shangri-La Resort and Spa opened it's branch here.

The island offers a lively night life comparable to that in Manila plus the sound of the waves.

The big tourism industry, however, made the island a bit pricey. But there are still affordable rooms dotted all over the place.

What i enjoyed so much about the island is the place itself. I came here not to enjoy the night life. I tried to explore the shores by walking. It is a long stretch of powdery white sand beach. Your adventure willl only be disturbed my some rocky cliffs which separate one cove to another.

I didn't try snorkeling though I am willing to do it next time.

Local taxi operators are also very honest. I remember leaving my DSLR in the taxi which I rode from the airport to the port and when I contacted the driver and asked if they found one, he immediately said yes. I got it the following day.
